Casting Call: Voices of The Mystic Express
Seven puppets. Seven distinct personalities. One magical bus.
We’re seeking seven adult voice actors and vocalists, preferably based on Maui, to bring the characters of The Mystic Express to life.
The Mystic Express is a children’s puppet series filled with music, mischief, mindfulness, and everyday magic. Aboard a magical bus with its own printing press, seven colorful characters help Lucy discover stories for their newspaper and learn a little about themselves along the way.
We’re looking for expressive performers with a sense of humor, strong character instincts, and voices that feel warm, distinctive, and full of life. Singing is an important part of the series, so please include a vocal sample with your submission.

Roko
Grounded · Nature-loving · Instinctive
Vocal age: 25–36 | Inspired by the root chakra
Roko feels most at home with her feet on the earth and her arms around a tree. Connected to nature, she notices things others overlook and encourages her friends to slow down, listen, and trust their instincts.
We’re seeking a grounded, expressive voice with warmth, humor, and quiet strength. We especially welcome performers of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island descent.
Amber
Vivacious · Artistic · Expressive
Vocal age: 28–40 | Inspired by the sacral chakra
Amber sees creative possibilities everywhere. Fashion, painting, and turning something ordinary into something fabulous are all part of her daily practice. She has big ideas, strong opinions about color, and a tendency to get gloriously carried away.
A Latina character with an infectious spark, Amber needs a lively, playful voice with emotional range and excellent comic timing.
Sunny
Bright · Enthusiastic · Optimistic
Vocal age: 20–28 | Inspired by the solar plexus chakra
Sunny believes in you even when you’re not entirely sure you believe in yourself. Bubbly and enthusiastic, she loves an affirmation and approaches life with an almost unstoppable sense of possibility. Learning what to do when positive thinking doesn’t immediately fix everything is part of her journey.
An American character, Sunny has a youthful, bright voice with buoyant energy, sincerity, and a delightfully funny streak.
Lotus
Loving · Sentimental · Tenderhearted
Vocal age: 25–35 | Inspired by the heart chakra
Lotus has a big heart and very little room left in her cupboards. She finds meaning in almost everything: a chipped teacup, an old ribbon, a pebble someone gave her three years ago. Parting with anything sentimental is a challenge which is unfortunate, because almost everything is sentimental.
An Asian American character, Lotus needs a gentle, affectionate voice with warmth, comic timing, and enough spirit to hold her own aboard a very busy bus.
Melody
Musical · Outspoken · Wry
Vocal age: 25–32 | Inspired by the throat chakra
Melody speaks her mind and frequently sings it. Blunt, a little sarcastic, and blessed with a song for every occasion, she can turn almost any conversation into a musical number, whether the moment calls for one or not.
We’re seeking an American voice with a distinctive raspy quality, sharp comic timing, and a strong, versatile singing voice. Beneath her directness, Melody has real heart.
Mojo
Soulful · Nurturing · Mystical
Vocal age: 28–40 | Inspired by the crown chakra
Mojo brings warmth, nourishment, and a little mystery to the bus. Connected to divine energies, she takes dreams very seriously and often finds meaning where others see coincidence. Her kitchen is a place for food, comfort, and conversations that wander into the cosmic.
A Black American character, Mojo needs a rich voice with warmth, presence, playful humor, and expressive singing ability.
